This position supervises a team of approximately 10-15 custodians engaged in a range of housekeeping duties, including but not limited to dusting, trash removal, and routine floor care. This position is responsible for requisitioning custodial supplies and equipment, maintaining employee records, and conducting quality assurance inspections of University buildings to ensure effective service delivery. Candidates must be knowledgeable in custodial procedures and equipment and must be insurable through the University’s insurance carrier to operate University vehicles. The work schedule for this position may vary from week to week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct, coach, train, plan, organize, and assign work to custodians in assigned buildings and areas to ensure efficient cleanliness, trash/recycling collection, and compliance with safety guidelines.
Manage overall custodial staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all assigned areas.
Perform daily walkthroughs of assigned areas and establish contact with building occupants to identify and address custodial needs.
Conduct inspections of staff work and performance evaluations of assigned personnel. Direct corrective actions as necessary to ensure satisfactory performance.
Manage inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment. Place orders for custodial materials and supplies as needed.
Train and instruct employees in the proper use of chemicals, supplies, equipment, and safety procedures.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) book and update as needed.
Ensure that custodial staff understand and comply with University policies, Physical Plant procedures, and all safety regulations.
Coordinate with event organizers and building users to schedule custodial services for special projects or events.
Assist with filling custodial vacancies and human resource-related issues.
Work directly with building occupants to address and resolve custodial concerns.
Complete administrative tasks including inspections, evaluations, approving employee time, weekly white cards, safety documentation, supply requests, key logs, and other related paperwork.
Attend required meetings and trainings.
Report damages to structure, facilities, and equipment for timely repairs and replacement.
Respond to emergencies, including but not limited to flooding, snow, and ice removal; position is designated as "critical personnel."
Note: This is a critical personnel position and requires the employee’s physical presence at the workplace. The employee is required to report to or remain at work to assist during University emergencies and closures.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
