Position Overview

 

This position is responsible for performing detailed tasks associated with designing and preparing plans and specifications for highway facility improvements.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures that plans prepared are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design standards and specifications or acceptable variations and represent the most cost-efficient design.
  • Supervises, trains, and motivates subordinate personnel on a seasonable basis.
  • Coordinates the activities with other sections within the bureau and other bureaus within the district to ensure that studies and plans are completed in time to meet prescribed time schedules.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to perform job duties independently and with minimal guidance/supervision.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • District-wide travel.
  •  Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
