Food Technologist- Tech Center, Caldwell ID FG

Summary

This role will deliver all technical aspects of New Product Introduction and category support to achieve profitable growth for Simplot and provide knowledge in food technology and related areas to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate within allocated NPI and non NPI expense budgets.
• Understanding of new product costing and provide input to optimizing costs.
• Maintain records for R&D Tax concession claim.
• Provide assistance to Core Innovation team and other colleagues as required.
• Communication and escalation of project progress/issues to sponsors & other stakeholders eg. Product and process risks, project milestones, road blocks.
• Understand the requirements of internal stake holders in their support of customer and consumer needs and align priorities and actions to Simplot delivery of those customers needs.
• Communicate the Stage Gate Product Innovation system project methodology used to the external customers and suppliers to ensure effective delivery of project objectives.
• Lead development and technical aspects of NPI projects using Stage Gate principles and procedures and sound project management principles making teamwork a priority. Be proactive in timely progression of projects.
• Troubleshoot technical, formulation, and processing issues throughout the NPI process.
• Provide information for NPI Gate Meetings as requested.
• Complete accurate and timely information for Stage gate documentation.
• Complete accurate Finished Product Information within the Oracle Product Management System.
• Conduct the R&D component of strategically important and technically difficult NPI projects.
• Actively participate in Non-NPI projects and provide technical support of current products.
• Provide innovative solutions and technical advice to stakeholders. eg. Factories, outsource suppliers, QA, Marketing, Procurement.
• Champion the use of stage gate process and project management principals in the management of the R&D aspects of NPI projects.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

• Product Development experience with proven results in the food industry is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop cross-functional relationships
• Some experience in managing multiple projects, demonstrating sound project management skills.
• Experience in Stage Gate product innovation process is highly regarded.
• Sound technical understanding and capability
• Knowledge of Food Standard Code and Food Safety Legislation
• Some knowledge of R&D tax concession law
• Demonstrated report writing skills
• Ability to make effective decisions in a timely manner
• Experience in finished product information system such as Hamilton Grant is highly regarded.
