Senior Principal Scientist, Discovery Biotherapeutics, Selection Technologies

Summary

The Discovery Biotherapeutics team is dedicated to the discovery and advancement of novel biotherapeutic candidates, leveraging cutting-edge science and innovative technologies to drive the drug discovery pipeline. We seek to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates, and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. Our team collaborates across disciplines to advance biologic programs in Oncology, Immunology, Cardiovascular, and Neuroscience with the ultimate goal of bringing new groundbreaking therapies to patients. The Selection Technologies team, a key component of Discovery Biotherapeutics, harnesses the power of in vitro display technologies such as yeast and mRNA display to discover binders against therapeutic targets of interest. We collaborate closely with computational biologists embedded directly in the Discovery Biotherapeutics organization to apply AI/ML predictions to synthetic library design, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis, and therapeutic candidate prioritization.

Position Responsibilities

The role of Senior Principal Scientist within Discovery Biotherapeutics, Selection Technologies involves leading a high-performing team that is responsible for conducting selections using in vitro display platforms such as yeast and mRNA display to discover binders against targets of interest. The successful candidate will be an expert in antibody discovery from in vitro methods and play a prominent role in shaping the future direction of platform development and innovation in this area. The role requires exceptional leadership and mentoring skills and the ability to collaborate across functional areas to support and potentially lead therapeutic programs.

In the role as a Senior Principal Scientist within Discovery Biotherapeutics, Selection Technologies, the ideal candidate will:

  • Lead a team of scientists to drive therapeutic antibody discovery efforts and foster a collaborative, goal-oriented environment.
  • Lead technology innovation efforts to benchmark and evolve our in vitro display platform and drive strategic decisions around synthetic library designs and platform investments.
  • Collaborate closely with computational and data science colleagues to leverage AI/ML and other computational methods applied to biotherapeutic discovery and to generate new ways of analyzing data.
  • Drive binder discovery and selection strategy across therapeutic programs.
  • Leverage cross-functional collaboration skills to lead therapeutic projects and/or technology initiatives.

Experience - Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 10+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Or

  • Master’s Degree
    • 8+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Or

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
    • 6+ years of academic and/or industry experience
    • 2+ years of leadership experience

Experience - Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent with 6+ years of industry experience and 4+ years of leadership experience.
  • Technical expertise in performing and supervising in vitro display experiments, including yeast, mRNA, phage, and/or mammalian display platforms.
  • Experience implementing and/or building in vitro antibody discovery platforms, such as designing synthetic antibody libraries or developing new in vitro display systems.
  • Experience analyzing antibody variable region sequences, including data from Nex
