This position is responsible for the financial reporting work related to new acquisitions (Purchase GAAP accounting, general ledger integration, and transition of financial reporting to Protective) and also oversees operations of the financial team for functions pertaining to a block of group life and accident & health insurance in the Company’s Protection division.   The Director will guide a senior analyst and a manager to accomplish this work.  The Director will also aid in the development and continuous learning and growth of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and train team members
  • Establish and maintain appropriate documentation for initial account balances (statutory and purchase GAAP basis) for new acquisitions
  • Ensure that results of operations are appropriately recorded in the general ledger, and analyze those results, during the transition services (pre-integration) time period for new acquisitions
  • Serve as point of contact for external auditors regarding new acquisition account balances and pre-integration accounting
  • Maintain proper internal controls around processes, policies, and procedures
  • Continually look for and implement business process improvement opportunities
  • Develop and lead the team by setting challenging goals, cross-training and development
  • Assist the team with research, issues, questions and provide support for daily tasks and activities
  • Other related duties as assigned, including special project involvement as needed

Qualifications/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of Accounting or Finance experience (Insurance accounting experience is strongly preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in managing/leading an accounting team.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written with the ability to teach, coach, and motivate team members.
  • Create an environment where customer experience, service levels and quality goals are understood and maintained. 
  • Solid organizational skills to meet service objectives despite complexities of work
  • Ability to acquire new skills and adapt quickly
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities and to ensure critical deadlines are met 
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent computer skills with in-depth knowledge of Excel.
  • Some travel may be required during acquisition periods
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $85,000 to $125,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
