Description
OverviewReporting to the Associate Director of Young Adult Programs and Services (YAPS), the Manager of Young Adult Staff Engagement & Support is responsible for providing support through programming, resources, professional development, and partnerships to teen patrons and teen-serving staff across our 89 branches.
The Manager’s portfolio includes the supervision and strategic growth of key elements of NYPL’s Teens 360° initiative such as teen mental wellness, creating joyful and engaging events for teens, and supporting staff professional development. The Manager designs, communicates, and implements programs and services that will help bring the Library’s strategic vision for teens to life.
The Manager joins a leadership team that includes the Director, two existing Associate Directors, and three other managers to support departmental team-building and collaboration, communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, and establish partnerships with mission-aligned external organizations. The Manager directly supervises two associate managers.
We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
- Management of the Staff Engagement & Support team including support to Young Adult Staff at NYPL’s 89 locations
- Production of large scale events like Anti-Prom and Author Programs
- Best practices for supporting teen development at the Library
- Communication and support strategies to support Young Adult staff
- The goals of the Young Adult Services department and our philosophy for working with young adults inclusive of NYPL’s strategic vision and our Teens360° initiative
- How to maintain effective partnerships with internal partners and external organizations that are aligned with NYPL’s mission and can further our work with Young Adult Staff
- Inter-departmental collaboration with other Young Adult Programs & Services teams in support of branch staff
- Onboarding procedures for Young Adult Staff joining the system
1 month, this person will:
- Review and understand the program goals, scope and existing management of the Young Adult Programs & Services Department.
- Successfully establish and maintain relationships with internal partners including Young Adult Staff and Library Managers
- Advise the Associate Director of Young Adult Programs & Services on a plan for the future goals of the department
- Work collaboratively with the Young Adult Programs & Services team to build out a Teens 360 vision and corresponding services.
The Manager of Young Adult Staff Engagement & Support will:
- Supervise the two associate managers as they support seasonal funding, the community of practice, and special events
- Advise the Associate Director of Young Adult Programs & Services on the strategic support of Young Adult Staff
- Monitor the budget and oversee the purchasing, organization, distribution, and tracking of program funds
- Lead the design and implementation of processes for onboarding new Young Adult Staff
- Lead the development of trainings including weekly and monthly staff meet ups
- Engage in intentional support and communication with young adult staff, library leadership including library managers, associate directors, and others.
- Support the organizational and planning and production of large scale events like Anti-Prom
- Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate regularly with internal partners including Adult Services and Outreach, Children’s Programs & Services, Communications, Human Resources, and more
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with the other Young Adult Programs & Services managers
- Identify and manage relationships with innovative program-aligned external partners
- Measure and report on program success, using a wide variety of tools
- Share best practices in young adult programming with the professional community
