The opportunity

This position is responsible for all aspects of Teva North America’s transportation activities, ensuring an efficient, compliant and economical operation, constantly striving for greater operational and strategic improvements and is based in our North Wales, PA facility.  Successful candidate must have extensive knowledge and hands on experience managing all modes of transportation, and demonstrated background of cost reduction and operational process improvement. Must be a team player able to work in a collaborative manner with senior management, direct reports and key internal and external stakeholders focused on consistently satisfying customer demands related to on-time and damage free deliveries.

How you’ll spend your day


All areas of responsibility listed below are essential to the satisfactory performance of this position by any incumbents with reasonable accommodation if necessary. Any non-essential functions are assumed to be included in other related duties or assignments. 

  • Manage and own relationships with all NA transportation carriers and related logistic service providers, including operational performance, system connectivity and invoice payment.
  • Manage carrier performance and compliance using systemic tracking tools to generate performance metrics to be reviewed monthly/quarterly/annually, with the goal of identifying cost reduction/service improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with 3rd party vendors, Purchasing Department, manufacturing facilities (internal and external) and Production Planning Department, to optimize mode of transport for inbound and outbound shipments from a cost and efficiency perspective.
  • Work closely with Finance and senior management to create NA transportation budgets, and actively manage them to ensure they stay at/below agreed upon targets.
  • Collaborate with Global Transportation/Procurement, and Legal, regarding all carrier/logistic service provider contract and rate negotiations.  
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to develop staff, and create agreed upon succession plans with HR & senior management for key roles within their organization.

Your experience and qualifications

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related curriculum, required.
  • Must have at least 7 years of NA transportation operations experience, with at least 5 years of managerial experience.  

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Business acumen regarding NA transportation operations & systems, freight bill payment, and over, short & damage carrier claim processes.
  • Experience and knowledge of controlled substance and cold chain logistics.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (training/presentations/reports).
  • Strong problem solving and project management skills. 
  • Must be able to multi-task and work with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Advanced skill level in MS Office including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, required.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Manhattan WM and Trackwise, desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the pharmaceutical or life science industries preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

 

Travel Requirement:

  • Approximately 10-15% domestic travel throughout the US and Canada.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional: Sitting for extended periods of time at work station or mobile equipment.
  • Visual Acuity: Perform activities such as computer work, preparing and analyzing data, and extensive reading.

 

Working Environment: 

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed on site visits (i.e. steel toe shoes, high visibility vests, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.).
