Work Based Learning Program Decom Technician

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking Rack Decommissioning Data Center Technicians as part of our Work Based Learning Program (WBLP). This position requires the successful candidate report to a site location. Amazon has multiple WBLP trainee openings between January – March 2025. Trainees will participate in our 12-month work and training program in our Oregon facilities.

The Decommissioning Technical team is responsible for processing and facilitating large scale legacy data center equipment through a liquidation process to ensure that targeted equipment is ready to be removed off premises. Team members will also process large volumes of customer data to ensure that all customer data is sanitized and properly managed.

You will work in a team environment and collaborate with other teams, which requires strong communication skills. Amazon Data Centers takes customer data with the utmost importance, and selected candidates must be able to perform repetitive tasks without variance and adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that ensures customer data is protected and properly handled.

All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations:
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds
• Ability to work in an environment that operates 24/7 with an ability to participate in primary responder rotation and provide after-hours support as needed
• Working in cramped and/or elevated and/or noisy environments
• Bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day
• Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation

Key job responsibilities
• Decommissioning and processing of legacy hardware out of the data center facilities
• Relocating and moving of large enterprise equipment
• Creating/attaching labels and barcodes
• Updating progress through a web ticketing system
• Escalating to senior technicians and management as needed/required

As a Data Center Technician professional, you have industry-leading technical abilities and demonstrate a breadth of knowledge while you:
• Take ownership of technical issues brought by their customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution
• Solve problems at their root and step back to understand the broader context
• Maintain service level agreements through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting

You will be required to work shift work that will include days/nights/weekends/holidays. Traveling within the regional work area is required. You will be responsible for having a reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license to travel within the regional work area, as company transportation will not be provided.
