This role will be staffed as a Sr. Analyst or Specialist working on Programs’ Pricing portfolio. The ideal candidate will have:

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Learning about many diverse books of business. Lines can span across many different areas including healthcare, warranty, workers’ compensation, professional liability, property, and more.
  • Generating actuarial indications alongside Pricing leadership. As part of this you will be involved in conversations regarding different non-rate strategies that can be applied for these niche books of business.  
  • Owning a portfolio of Programs and building relationships across Pricing, Reserving, Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, and other business units. Alongside Pricing Leadership, you will leverage insights to create business recommendations.  
  • Completing other project work relevant to the portfolio which could span across the Programs planning unit or other Pricing areas.
  • Assisting in setting the financial forecast for the E&S Programs Pricing books.
  • Exploring the use of new software packages and making recommendations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Typically, 2-4 years of proven experience in P&C insurance with a focus on pricing. 
  • This position is open to students that are still taking exams and require exam support.

Location:

  • This role will be staffed at the E-F pay band and will sit in Columbus (OH), Scottsdale (AZ) or Des Moines (IA). This role will have a hybrid work arrangement of two days in office and three remote.

As a Senior Analyst, you’ll be expected to learn about the insurance and finance industry, products Nationwide provides and a variety of actuarial software. You will be trained in company and business operations while performing mathematical and quantitative actuarial analyses essential to the success of Nationwide and the protection we provide our customers.

This position is expected to be a part of the P&C Actuarial Rotation Program, which will give you the potential opportunity to work on various actuarial, analytics, and risk management teams to learn and develop across different actuarial functions. You will be expected to participate in three rotations of two years each. Full program details will be provided to you upon your start date.

  • Begins to develop knowledge of actuarial methodologies, allowing the ability to source and manipulate data within standard requirements.

  • Conducts analysis, that adheres to actuarial standards, by selecting appropriate data sources and making assumptions to develop recommendations. Notes any unreasonable results and reports to leader.

  • Documents assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion.

  • Prepares actuarial findings and documents that are suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Adheres to assigned work schedule to ensure timely completion of individual tasks and group projects. Notifies leadership anticipating of any possible missed deadlines.
