Summary
Under general supervision, to assist in the development, coordination, design and implementation of Countywide environmental, health and safety programs and training. To assist in investigations and audits Countywide for environmental health and safety compliance.
This Associate Environmental Health and Safety Analyst - Unclassified opportunity is a temporary position expected to expire January 2028. This position will focus on the environmental compliance program for Santa Clara County Parks, ensuring compliance with applicable Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, limits for contaminants in stormwater runoff, and ongoing remediation efforts at legacy pollution sites. Additional work may include environmental assessment, monitoring, and remediation feasibility project analysis. Other environmental protection program elements include hazardous materials storage, hazardous waste programs, closed landfills, aboveground fuel tanks, and underground fuel tanks.
Examples of duties
The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
- Assists in the design, development, coordination, and delivery of Countywide environmental, health and safety training;
- Provides support to agency/departmental Safety Coordinators;
- Assists in hazard investigations, research on Environmental Health-and Safety regulations, noise monitoring and air sampling;
- Provides support to agency/departmental Safety Coordinators and Environmental Compliance Specialist;
- Assists in the conduct of safety audits, inspections, and environmental compliance training;
- Assists in providing technical support to agencies/departments without designated Environmental Compliance Specialists;
- Assists in the preparation of environmental plans and environmental permits;
- May perform air sampling, analysis, data interpretation and report writing; noise monitoring and air sampling;
- May assist facility manager in performing routine tasks related to environmental and safety compliance;
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required*;
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Qualifications
Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to possession of a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science or other related field. Relevant analytical, administrative, lead, supervisory, or management experience that includes interpreting rules and regulations, gathering data and formulating recommendations, and report writing can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis;
AND
Two (2) years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field.
Special Requirements
- Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
