Senior EH&S Technician

About you and this role:

You will share responsibility for the implementation of the EH&S management system, in order to meet business objectives and to maintain the license to operate for the Poly 3 and Poly 4 unit at Freeport. You will provide hands-on environmental, industrial hygiene (IH), and health and safety (H&S) activities for a specific plant. You will be required to have full proficiency in a range of technical, operational, or analytical/scientific processes and procedures through job-related training and considerable on the job experience to perform a variety of work assignments. You will act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities:

• Implements detailed, task level, day to day EH&S programs, utilizing the EH&S work process, standards and procedures
• Ensures that the Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety aspects of operating discipline are adequate and applied to achieve EH&S performance goals. In most cases, would perform the role of section owner for the EH&S sections of operating discipline
• Acts as the Plant resource for related EH&S information on procedures, guidelines and standards
• Serves as plant contact for Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety issues
• Coaches teams and individuals on EH&S related tasks and activities
• Assists in developing and achieving area or plant EH&S goals
• Ensures compliance tasks are completed
• Performs/coordinates certain Environmental, and IH monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
• A minimum of two years of relevant experience
• Must be willing to work overtime and weekends when required
• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Skills, knowledge, and abilities:

• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and can learn new systems quickly
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills are required
• Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills
• Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence
• A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

• Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
• Wear and use respirators
• Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground
• Stand or walk for extended periods of time
• Work in an area with hazardous materials

Preferred skills:

• Four or more years of EH&S and manufacturing or operations related experience, as well as a candidate with defined examples of ownership and engagement in facility EH&S
• An associate’s degree, or higher, in relevant field OR 3+ years military experience
