A Brief Overview

The Associate Claims Consultant , collaborates with the Executive Director and Claim Consultant to provide technical expertise and perform moderately complex analysis for reinsurance and retro claims. Works independently, with claim management, and with various departments across the organization and US Operations, to identify and resolve complex reinsurance claim issues. Assists claim management with monitoring and adjusting workflow assignments, training and mentoring regarding claims matters. Collaborates with the Claims Consultant to be a key resource for procedural process improvements and documentation. Must be willing to take on unexpected projects and tasks.

What you will do

  • Serves as OJT/SME for new or junior associates and on projects. Further develops subject matter expertise to serve as a technical resource for moderately complex reinsurance claim questions and situations.

  • Analyzes moderately complex claim data for compliance with treaty terms and systemic reporting issues.

  • Works with all departments in the USMM Operations division and other RGA departments to identify needs and analyze possible solutions using technical experience and established procedures.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of claims standards, procedures and controls. Collaborates with the Claim Consultant and management to identify, drive, and participate in the development and implementation of system/process enhancements for the Claims Department.

  • Develops client relationships and seeks resolutions to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Monitors and adjusts workflow assignments in collaboration with the Claim Consultant and Claims Management.

  • Prepares reports that allow management to monitor claims production and quality results against stated goals.

  • Represents Claims in related and cross functional projects including Global Claims initiatives

  • Collaborates with claim management to provide guidance on claims related Event & Exception handling for new and junior associates. Collaborates with the Claim Consultant to oversee various claims reporting tasks.

  • Participates in internal claim related audits and other audits (i.e. client claim audits) as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services required

  • 4+ Years life reinsurance or direct life insurance claims experience required

  • 6+ Years life reinsurance or direct life insurance claims experience preferred

  • Experience with high dollar complex claims, including litigation preferred

  • Basic Microsoft Word skills & PowerPoint skills; Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills & Microsoft Outlook skills; Basic SQL and Query skills required

  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change; Takes initiative and is accountable; Value judgment abilities required

  • Ability to read and interpret insurance and contract documents required

  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines required

  • Intermediate interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to train claim staff required

  • Basic goal setting skills; Ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives required

  • Ability to work independently and coordinate activities within a team required

  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge; Comfortable with presenting in small and medium group settings; Basic negotiating and persuasion skills required

  • Intermediate investigative, analytical and moderately complex problem solving skills; Exercise independent judgment and intermediate analytical ability required

  • Strong internal and external customer service orientation required

  • Advanced Excel skills; Intermediate SQL and Query skills preferred

  • Reinsurance industry knowledge, including jumbo and auto bind limits and retroceded claims preferred

  • Progress toward FLMI, ALHC, ARA or other relevant professional accreditation preferred
