Job Summary:This position ensures the safe and continued operation of all State of Arizona owned and operated port of entry scale locations throughout the state. Repairs, services, and calibrates all types of scale systems the state owns and operates to include but are not limited to Port of Entry, portable trailer and hand scales. Requires flexibility with work hours and days/nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate emergency repair work and varied schedules.

Job Duties:Repair/Inspection/Certification Port of Entry scales. Repair/Inspection/Certification of portable trailer scales. Repair/Inspection/Certification of hand held scales. Requires extensive travel to scale locations throughout the state and overnight lodging as required. Work outside in the elements.
Repairs various parts on portable scale trailers and provides minor maintenance. Provides advice and recommendations to management on scale operations.
Maintain databases of scale calibrations, servicing, repairs and other related information. Maintains scale parts inventory and a repair/service database. Coordinates with scale companies for additional work performed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:
• Scale electronics, structural principles, and hydraulic components
• Commercial truck limitations and axle placements
• Load cells and scale weight indicators
• Certified test weights
• Scale repairs, testing and certifying
• AC & DC voltage
• Basic troubleshooting of printers and outdoor scale display scoreboards the specifications, tolerances, and other technical requirements for weighing and measuring devices
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting low voltage circuits, reading schematics
Skill in:
• Written and oral communications
• Time management
• Record keeping
• Hydraulic system inspection
Ability to:
• Analyze and evaluate scale problems to determine appropriate actions and steps to take.
• Use of a hydraulic scale press tester.
• Operate a scale test truck; crane and weight cart.
• Use a digital voltmeter (DVM).
• Read and understand electronic schematics.
• Operate scale test equipment, to include hydraulic crane and welding equipment.
• Obtain and maintain a confined space certification.
• Pass medical/physical exam to include pulmonary test required to fit test and wear a N95 mask or a paper.
Will have some experience in the direct contact of Weigh in Motion (WIM) scales, static platform enforcement scales, portable enforcement ramp scales, and hand carried enforcement scales.
Experience with Cardinal scales, Btek, Intercomp, Flex-weigh, Haenni Load O' Meter, Toledo, Fairbanks, Howe, and Weightronics and NIST Handbook 44 Proficiency is highly desirable.
