Education and Work Experience:  

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Work/Professional Experience: 3 years of customer service experience is preferred.

Scope of Position: The Social Service Support Staff member will receive all inquiries to the Social Services office, whether in-person or by telephone, determine their eligibility for services, refer those necessary to the Outreach workers, and assist those who qualify with services through the office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge required: use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.  Bilingual is a plus.

Skill required: type 25 wpm; perform data entry using database program, use Microsoft software (Outlook and Word) to create basic documents (notes, memos, emails) and reports; use basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide); establish effective working relationships; attention to detail; operate a motor vehicle, pallet jack, and truck liftgate. Able to learn and utilize online statistical and data entry programs.

Ability required: interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards; use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations plan, and direct their work- organize, prioritize and multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in work flow); learn new systems and procedures as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Food Pantry:

  1. Distribute emergency food, place and unload food orders with approved vendors
  2. Maintain food pantry by routinely cleaning the social service area, including but not limited to vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, washing windows, cleaning and organizing storage areas, dusting, mopping floors, and cleaning other furnishings as necessary.
  3. Assist with food drives and holiday assistance programs.
  4. Stock pantry/lobby area with food bags, bread, produce
  5. Stock hygiene items and notify supervisor when supplies run low
  6. Assist with the weekly food pickups, loading and unloading.
  7. Input data for food pantry into necessary programs for stats and tracking

  3. Make appropriate referrals to Outreach workers as appropriate.
