The Investment Operations Associate II supports Protective Life’s Investment Management business by ensuring accurate investment data, efficient operations, and high‑quality reporting across multiple asset types. This role collaborates closely with Middle Office partners, Strategy, Operations, and Technology teams to maintain data integrity, support investment systems, and drive continuous operational improvement. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to simplify complexity while working in a fast‑paced environment.
This position is required to report to our Birmingham, AL office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support securities and derivatives data management operations, ensuring accurate and timely investment information.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain investment data used for internal reporting, including transactions, positions, performance, analytics, and limit monitoring.
  • Conduct deep‑dive data analyses to validate the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of investment data.
  • Enhance quality control processes for reference and analytical investment data, including developing tools for monitoring, diagnostics, and issue resolution.
  • Manage trade settlement processes while coordinating with custodians and Middle Office teams.
  • Apply knowledge of compliance frameworks, including Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) standards.
  • Produce investment reporting across transactions, positions, performance measurement and attribution, scenario analysis, stress testing, counterparty analysis, and compliance monitoring.
  • Support process gap analyses and contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including strengthening operational and risk controls.
  • Complete daily reconciliations across multiple platforms and investment products.
  • Support the development of the Systems Management Framework by partnering with IT and the Investments Front Office to enhance system functionality.
  • Identify and propose technology enhancements related to data management and reporting.
  • Assist with development and implementation of new investment management systems, including user training and customization support.
  • Lead or support technology‑driven initiatives to improve operational processes and system efficiency.
  • Perform system administration tasks to maintain system controls and proper segregation of duties.
  • Contribute to special projects and broader corporate initiatives as needed.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends or issues.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, filtering, and macros.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when working with large data sets.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt quickly in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks within the Investment Operations environment and maintain organized workflows.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to simplify and translate complex concepts.
  • Service‑oriented approach, with a desire to learn, grow, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of investment operations, including securities and derivatives data, reporting, compliance requirements, and reconciliation processes.
  • Familiarity with KYC, AML, and related regulatory frameworks preferred.
  • Understanding of investment systems and data flows, with the ability to support system enhancements and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in investment operations or a related investment environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and uphold high standards of data quality and accuracy.
