About the role

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has an opening for full-time Facilities Manager working from the Lockport, NY office.

The Facilities Manager has the primary responsibility to plan, manage, and coordinate the maintenance and appearance of the Association’s grounds and physical facilities to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public attending events and programs at the Education Center.

The Facilities Manager will resolve facility and maintenance issues and problems; provide guidance to the Executive Director on the state of facilities, upkeep, etc.; manage physical facility/facilities; oversee construction and renovation projects including scheduling of vendors and contractors. It is the role of the position to set and manage the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules including, but not limited to, the office areas, bathrooms, storage areas, grounds, and entrances. The Facilities Manager is also responsible to oversee the preparations of facilities for meetings, rentals, and events; mowing; snow removal; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; maintenance of equipment; set up/breakdown; and coordinating facility needs with the Executive Director and/or designated staff. Responsible for ensuring OSHA/PESHA safety regulations are followed. Responsible for overseeing facilities staff, including scheduling, assignment of duties, training as needed, oversight/inspection of work, assisting in annual reviews, etc.

    

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Education. Associates degree plus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute.
•    Valid New York State Driver’s License.
•    Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. 
•    Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
•    Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
•    Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
•    Experience working with engineers, architects, carpenters, masons, plumbers, and electricians.
•    Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to staff.
•    Ability to operate facility equipment, such as tractor, skid-steer, lawn mower, snow blower, etc.
•    Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder. 
•    Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work. 
•    Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings. 
•    Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and to complete work within a reasonable time frame. 
•    Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
•    Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environmental and priorities. 
•    Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the workplace.
•    Ability to work effectively with co-workers.  
•    Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff as pertains to the duties of the job. 
•    Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
•    Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor. 
•    Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to staff.
•    Basic Computer Skills including use of e-mail and computer-based time collection.
•    Physical ability to do heavy lifting (able to lift and carry 50 pounds), to shovel snow, carry supplies and equipment. 
•    Ability to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation: frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, precipitation and cold; frequently lift, move or transport facility materials, office and landscaping waste; and constantly perform cleaning and maintenance tasks by frequently positioning self (for example, pulling, bending, reaching, touching, kneeling, using hands to feel/reach, climbing stairs and ladders). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and/ vibrating mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate and occasionally very loud, especially when using equipment like lawnmowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, etc.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Professional Licenses (Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing, etc.) 
•    Experience in guiding and collaborating with volunteers.
