Joining the DevOps team, as a Staff Cloud Engineer at Datavant you will help design, implement, and maintain our AWS and Azure Infrastructure services to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security. You’ll work with peers in CloudSec and on the DevOps team to help manage the entirety of our cloud properties. This includes working collaboratively on the team to write terraform and help manage Kubernetes clusters on behalf of the team.
You’ll be familiar already with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, and will be natively very good at working with it. You are joining a team that is code forward and seeks peers that are the same. The DevOps team runs on a life blood of PR and code collaboration and this is a native world you are most familiar working in. You will help Datavant maintain our large terraform modules and code base as well as Cloud Organization settings in our environments.
You’ll bring with you:
- Extensive experience in at least 1 cloud platform (Preferably AWS or Azure).
- You will natively understand how services glue together and can have a deep dialog with us on how to design in your cloud and design decisions you would make. We expect you to be more versed than naming services, you understand the currency of configuration amongst them.
- A strong proficiency in Terraform, with a track record of implementing complex IaC solutions.
- You are probably stronger in HCL than any other language and are great at knowing all of the edge cases and gotchas for terraform.
- Extensive experience with Kubernetes, including designing, deploying, and managing production-grade clusters.
- Experience with containerization technologies.
- Extensive experience managing a fleet of Cloud environments and Kubernetes clusters in a standardized way
- A mastery in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and configuration management.
- Knowledge on Github and Github pipelines (Actions).
- A solid understanding of networking and security principles, and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams.
- Knowledge of classic configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
You will be working on:
- Developing, refactoring, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources. We expect you are amazing in this area.
- Including helping Datavant to transition legacy deployments and tooling into a standardized model with Terraform.
- You will be called upon to help us manage our AWS and Azure organizations and work on Account Structure, OUs, Central Log Aggregation, AWS Tag Policies in terraform.
- You will put your hands on code daily to help improve the environment. You should expect in this role to be pulling PRs all day and be very comfortable with committing.
- If you do not routinely build in terraform, yaml, and kubernetes this role will probably not be for you.
- Making our cluster management amazing. Collaborating with development teams and your peers in CloudSec to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications within Kubernetes environments.
- Helping with the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to facilitate automated testing, deployment, and scaling of applications.
- Implementing robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the health and performance of our infrastructure.
