Job purpose
BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Electronics Hardware Design Intern.
The Electronics Hardware Design Intern will be focused on day-to-day support and assisting engineers in designing, characterizing, and testing various aspects of automotive power conversion products. Further, the intern will assist in related problem resolution in the exciting and growing field of power electronics for hybrid and electric cars.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the electrical design, simulation and analysis of power electronics circuits and systems to meet technical product requirements
- Perform the electrical debug, test, characterization, and verification of power electronics designs
- Assist in specifying, identifying, and testing of key, critical electrical components
- Support BorgWarner product development team with technical design analysis, trade off studies, and design reviews
- Gain understanding of the vehicle system components and functions that interface to the power electronics subsystem
- Work with other engineering competencies and suppliers to aid in the development and verification of electronics products
- Use a broad range of electronic lab equipment to build, analyse, test, and verify designs functionally. Examples of tests are:
- Embedded controller verification
- Power Electronics efficiency, static and dynamic performance
- Thermal test bench
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
What we’re looking for
- One of the following is required:
- Graduate student pursing a degree in Power Electronics
- Completed Undergraduate Junior or Senior year in Electrical Engineering with intentions to pursue a Graduate degree in Power Electronics
- Undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering with former Electrification/Power Electronics Internship experience
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale or B average, upon initial hire date
- Candidate needs to have a strong interest in the automotive and / or power electronics field
- Experience in Power Electronics is preferred through one of the following: organizations, research programs, internships
- Knowledge of modeling, simulating, and/or circuit design required
- Knowledge of power devices and their application required
- Experience in a lab environment with electrical circuits preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to solve problems efficiently and effectively
- Analytical, technical, and statistical coursework preferred
- Knowledge of embedded controls software and serial communication protocols preferred
- Experience testing of DC to AC inverter motor drives and controls preferred
- Engineering based student design competition experience preferred
