Job Summary This position supports Baylor and Financial Services by
- Assisting with risk-based reviews of activities and periodic data validation to support University Compliance and Assurance
- Researching discrepancies and report findings; coordinating with accounting staff, the journal vouchers remaining which are not posted by the JV cutoff in order for a timely start of the monthly closing process.
- Reconciling University balance sheet and clearing accounts as assigned, exercising judgment and suggesting corrections.
- Preparing daily, monthly, quarterly, annual, and "as needed" routine and non-routine journal entries for the University; recording year-end closing non-routine accounting and financial entries and report; analyzing, recalculating, and adjusting entries as needed for closings.
- Assisting with proofing University financial reports and schedules.
- Other duties may include large accounting reconciliations and identifying variances such as monthly utility analysis; assisting with building square footage analysis; documenting internal controls and procedures; and identifying and assisting staff in implementing accounting efficiencies.
- Assisting project directors and staff with special projects as needed
The hourly rate for this position is $17.00, 10-20 hpw.
M-F 8am - 5pm depending on student's schedule.

Job Functions

- Prepare general ledger journal entries as needed
- Prepare transactions within subledgers as needed
- Prepare supporting schedules for University audits as needed
- Research and investigate variances as needed.

The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to gain hands on accounting experience of a non-profit organization. They will have the rare chance to assist the University's accounting department as they prepare for the University's annual audit and fiscal year-end. The more the student is willing to put into their work and prove themselves, the more the department will entrust work to them and invest in this unique learning opportunity.
Required hard / specialized skills
The successful candidate will be an Accounting major in the Accounting Master's program. Individual must possess advanced skills in creating complex Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. Some exposure to Oracle is preferred, but not required.
Required soft skills
The successful candidate will have the ability to manage confidential materials with discretion, will have the skill set to identify overall objectives of the department and corroborate to give value added feedback and provide quality problem-solving as necessary.
