Intro to Position
NPR’s Development division seeks a dynamic, persistent, and mission-driven Manager, Leadership Giving to focus on donors to the NPR Network. This role acts as a bridge between our most dedicated supporters and the collective power of the NPR Network. You will be responsible for scaling personalized outreach to mid-level donors and directly managing a related portfolio to sustain the vital journalism of NPR and our hundreds of independent Member stations.
Responsibilities
- Scale personalization efforts by adapting standardized templates, ensuring outreach feels bespoke yet remains efficient for donors giving in the $1K-$10K range; Drive data-driven donor renewal and upgrades by developing timely touchpoints that demonstrate the value of support, aiming to minimize attrition and increase donor loyalty to the NPR Network.
- With the support of prospect research, qualify new donors to the NPR Network to determine their specific affinity for the NPR Network, their capacity for support and their inclination to make a gift at or near their capacity.
- Manage a portfolio of donors with the demonstrated capacity to make NPR Network gifts in the $10K-25K range; Articulate donor strategies and demonstrate a disciplined focus on moving prospects through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship phases. As needed, navigate joint solicitation strategies for key prospects, partnering with teams at NPR and Member stations to ensure a seamless donor experience.
- Support the design and implementation of pilot fundraising initiatives that serve as a blueprint for the NPR Network; influence best practices for mid-level donor engagement across the public media sector.
- Maintain meticulous records in Salesforce, ensuring that interactions are captured, tracked and reported in a timely manner.
- Communicate frequently with colleagues, sharing activity and progress regularly to foster a collaborative fundraising environment.
- Exemplify fundraising best practices and a high level of ethics in all activities

Required Skills/Competencies
- 3–5 years of frontline fundraising experience, ideally within a complex, federated, or multi-chapter nonprofit structure.
- Proven success in independently cultivating and closing general operating gifts in the $10,000 - $25,000 range.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to work closely and professionally with a wide range of constituents, including staff, board members, Member stations, external partners and donors/prospects. Especially balancing needs while keeping the donor's intent central.
- Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platform as a tool for tracking and data-driven decision-making; Translate complex donor activity and data into insights that inform strategy.
- Cultivate and support an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in work experience preferred
