About The Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifying areas of operational opportunity and improvement, ability to quickly document and implement solutions
  • Develop from scratch and effectively execute underwriting procedures, policies, and standards 
  • Monitor and facilitate process standardization such as activity metrics, underwriting process, and operational cadence
  • Work closely with Head of Underwriting Development to recruit, hire, mentor, and develop underwriting staff both domestically and internationally
    • Consistently assess quality and headcount 
    • Continuously perform hiring analysis to flex with our growth
  • Lead and manage day-to-day underwriting team operations
    • Ability to lead the team with passion about positivity and continual improvement, across time zones and countries 
    • Lead team meetings
    • Manage operational escalations
    • Resourcing (e.g., scheduling, team rotations, etc.) 
  • Build strong relationships with Ethos cross-functional teams to drive initiatives by developing relevant goals and objectives then working with the team to meet them on a consistent basis
  • Be an effective partner with other internal teams such as billing, operations, finance, product, marketing, and more
  • Partner with carriers to create feedback loop for all underwriting activity and maintain high level of work quality 
  • Own, develop, and lead all aspects of B2B underwriting vendors 
    • Monitor and continuously improve metrics focused on the vendor specific activities
    • Manage and maintain relationship with external case management vendor
  • Use operational learnings to champion enhancements to Ethos proprietary systems to improve auto-approval rates, underwriter efficiency and user experience 
  • Stay informed on the latest industry best practices, strategies, and methods

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to work across time zones
  • Experience with multinational and offshore teams 
  • 5+ years of experience managing operations
  • 2+ years in new business, case management or underwriting
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of life insurance trends and new technology
  • Sharp focus on execution and an owner mentality with a track record of delivering success in a timely manner
  • Experience with automated rules engines, industry case management and SalesForce.com a plus
  • Established relationships or experience working with industry vendors 
  • Data oriented decision making skills and great intuition
