Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with experience as a drilling and grouting engineer to join the Dams and Reservoirs group in Denver, Colorado. The qualified candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in consulting with a strong background in dam foundation treatment, grout curtain design and construction, field investigations and construction oversight. The primary role will be to support the group as a drilling and grouting engineer with a secondary focus on geotechnical engineering for design and construction of dams.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of foundation grouting for concrete and embankment dam foundations
  • Develop plans and specifications for dam foundation grouting designs, provide recommendations and collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines
  • Experience in design, management and oversight of consolidation grouting, contact grouting, curtain grouting, mix design, and grout QC testing
  • Preparation and development of Geotechnical Work Plans, Geotechnical Data Reports, etc.
  • Conduct geotechnical field explorations that may include soil and rock borings, packer testing, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing; geotechnical instrumentation design and construction; dam safety inspections; inspection for the construction of dams; collection of geotechnical samples, review of geotechnical data, and laboratory testing assignments
  • Develop geotechnical design parameters based on laboratory data results
  • Develop material properties for soil and rock, and perform geotechnical evaluations that may include liquefaction triggering, seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, and filter compatibility
  • May lead one or more teams in the delivery of work efforts that are often complex
  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers
  • Have the opportunity to meet with clients and participate in proposal efforts
  • Have the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Geological Engineering
  • 6+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • PE license required
  • Valid driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's of Science degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering
  • 10+ years of related experience in Geotechnical Engineering projects
  • Grout curtain and dam foundation treatment experience
  • Colorado PE license or ability to obtain Colorado PE license within 6 months
  • Experience using geotechnical and geologic software (e.g., GeoStudio, Leapfrog, Rocscience, RockWorks, gINT)
  • Ability to manage projects within budget, scope & schedule as well as effectively managing engineering staff as assigned.
  • The ability to work well within a team

  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The target salary range for this position is $90,000 - $125,000.
