Job Description
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan or Mountain View three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
As Staff Software Engineer, Platform, you will:
Design and code development of safety critical platform applications using C, C++14 and above, holding a high standard of software quality.
Develop automation scripting in python
Experience with developing multithreaded applications.
Experience with interprocess communication stacks and middleware frameworks (eg. DDS, Zenoh etc.)
Enforces good software design and development practices in the team, from through requirement gathering, architecture definition, unit testing and code reviews.
Assess and incorporate new open-source technologies in automotive applications, considering factors like performance, security, and compatibility.
Creates optimized timing critical applications for embedded Linux using C/C++.
Debug, test, and validate software on target hardware platforms.
Analyze benchmarks, application workloads, and performance simulation results to identify tradeoffs and opportunities for micro-architectural optimizations to KPI parameters. Perform CPU optimization tasks for core affinity and priority allocation.
Provide support for production / plant deploying platform software. Provide End of Line manufacturing issue resolution by analyzing tool logs from Flash, Static, AVT and DVT process in GM plants.
Analyze diagnostic communication between SoC and GBFTT for Flash and Over the Air (OTA) process, debug faults and unblock GM manufacturing issues.
Provide test requirements for unit and integration tests. Design and develop unit test cases using Unit testing frameworks.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
12+ years of experience in advanced programming with C and C++ (C++11 or newer preferred) for application development.
Hands-on experience with Buildroot/Yocto, including recipe creation, layer management, and image customization.
Strong expertise in Embedded Linux and Linux kernel development.
Proficiency in build systems such as Bazel and CMake.
Deep understanding of embedded systems development and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Experience with topic-based communication middleware (e.g., DDS, Zenoh, MQTT).
Skilled in Linux debugging tools like GDB.
Proficiency in network analysis using tcpdump and Wireshark.
Familiarity with UDS standards (ISO-14229).
