If you are an LEAD AERODYNAMICS ENGINEER looking for a growth opportunity, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Sidney, OH location, you will be responsible for developing aero flow paths for a lineup of new commercial compressors. In this role, you will be expected to implement fast-paced, time-critical projects while building the organization's domain expertise in the aerodynamic design of centrifugal compressors. The qualified individual will participate in product development focused on aerodynamic design, CFD analysis, manufacturing support, cost reduction, testing, and product performance assessment, with an emphasis on developing the most reliable and efficient compressor solution for HVACR applications.
AS A LEAD AERODYNAMICS ENGINEER, YOU WILL:
Conduct aerodynamics design and CFD analysis of centrifugal compressors.
Develop robust workflows and scripts for automated workflows in CFD.
Coordinate with suppliers, partners, labs, compressor engineers, and manufacturing to deliver prototypes, samples, and mass production products.
Check and review outsourced work scope with third-party consultants.
Carry out the design of experiment and validation, developing both analytical and empirical validation procedures for compressors.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly methods for cost and cycle time reduction.
Interact with other technical team members to drive robust, sound, technical decisions.
Work multi-functionally with other groups such as Engineering, labs, Planning/Project Management, Marketing, Advanced Manufacturing, etc.
Guide and participate in performance/laboratory testing for new design components.
Organize and document all analyses and test programs.
Define project scope and review requirements for phase gate approval.
Lead scope, costs, and schedule for technical projects.
Clearly and precisely communicate, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization and with clients.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent plus minimum of two (2) years of experience in the aerodynamic design of centrifugal compressors/turbomachinery
Or PHD with equivalent academic research/work experiences
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Working knowledge and experience with compressors and associated auxiliary systems
Experience in designing and analyzing compressor components (inlets, impellers, diffusers, volutes, etc.) using 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D analysis tools
Familiar with high-speed rotors, bearings gas seal systems, and thrust load calculation
Experience with CFD programs
Programming knowledge in Python (or equivalent)<
