Job Description
The Senior Quality Engineer will be responsible for vendor quality, maintaining quality documentation, creating and managing inspection and test plans (ITPs), dispositioning Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and ensuring that products meet customer and industry standards. Familiarity with 3D metrology tools and quality management software is essential to help drive continuous improvement and ensure the highest level of product quality.
Accountabilities:
- Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes
- Maintain and organize quality-related documents, including inspection reports, test records, certifications, and vendor documentation
- Review, assess, and disposition non-conformances (NCRs) in a timely and effective manner
- Investigate the root causes of non-conformances, recommend corrective actions, and ensure timely closure of NCRs
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence
- Review of supplier procedures
- Evaluate processes, procedures, and equipment to contract requirements
- Review of quality requirements related to RFQs
- Prepare Quality Write-ups in support of proposal preparation
- Supply chain activities – vendor assessments/audits/approvals/customer visits
- Work closely with other departments, including engineering, production, and supply chain, to address quality-related concerns and improve overall product quality
- Participate in component design reviews to ensure that quality considerations are incorporated at the early stages of product development
Main Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive inspection and test plans (ITPs) for hydro turbine projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align ITPs with project specifications and customer requirements
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement corrective actions and best practices that enhance product quality and reduce defects
- Review and approve vendor Inspection and Test Plans
- Participate in internal and external audits to verify adherence to quality standards and best practices
- Perform source inspections at vendor shops when required
- Review and approve all contract-related quality records
- Evaluate and identify requirements related to customer quality standards that exceed American Hydro Corporation standards and ensure compliance with those requirements to meet customer expectations
- Coordinate and conduct supplier audits
- Coordinate and accompany customer quality visitation to our facility and vendor locations
Development Responsibilities:
- Improving the Quality Culture within the American Hydro Team
- Support production and engineering personnel on quality-related issues
- Understand and support the importance of record-keeping and documentation
Authorities:
- Review and approval of Quality data supplied in support of manufacturing efforts, both internal and external
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiar with processes and procedures related to heavy steel cutting, welding, and machining operations
- Experience with non-destructive testing, including MT, PT, UT, RT, and Visual Inspection
- Experience with Dimensional Inspection methods
- Experience with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements
- Experience with Intelex or similar Quality Management System Software
- Proven experience in a Quality Engineering role
- Conscientious and responsible with a results-driven approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
