About the role

Safety & Health Specialist – Corporate 

GPC Safety/IH Department is currently hiring 2 Safety and Health Specialists.

Position 1 - Location:  Forest Park, Georgia

Repair Shop Support, Corporate Safety & Health Specialist

Reporting Location: 62 Lake Mirror Rd, Forest Park Georgia. Must live within commuting distance of facility and willing to work onsite 4 days a week. No relocation benefits will be given.

Travel Requirements: Monthly travel to Macon, Georgia including overnight stay.

 

Position 2- Location:  Can reside any city within the State of Georgia.  Monthly travel to Atlanta for meetings is required

Fleet and Facilities Support, Safety & Health Specialist

Reporting Location: (Statewide Responsibility). May work at various customer sites throughout Georgia.

Travel Requirements: 50% statewide travel including overnight stay ; Must be able to report Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia for monthly meetings.

Successful candidates will be required to remain flexible with assigned work. This flexibility will provide opportunities for growth and learning as candidates take on additional tasks, projects, and safety support, as necessary. Depending on the needs of the organization, candidates may also be asked to support different or additional work groups in the future.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Professional Certification (ex. CSP, ASP, CUSP) is preferred
  • Successful completion of OSHA specific training preferred.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience developing, implementing, and assuring compliance with safety & health policies and procedures required
  • Previous experience delivering presentations to large audiences is required.
  • Previous experience performing facility safety assessments preferred.
  • Prior experience developing and implementing injury avoidance and accident prevention programs.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of accident prevention and investigation procedures preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership role is desired.
  • Experience in writing safety processes and procedures is desired.
  • Previous experience interpreting and applying federal, state and local safety laws and regulations (OSHA, FMCSA, DOT) to internal processes and procedures highly preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and capable of working independently with limited or no supervision. 
  • In-depth knowledge of current safety and health laws and regulations highly preferred.
  • The successful individual must possess the ability to develop into and be recognized as the expert in safety and health matters
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to communicate with all levels of employees and management.
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Products.
  • Research and analytical skills, ability to interpret and communicate data. 
  • Overnight travel required.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Work with management to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and health programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures. 
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits in a shop setting to identify and mitigate potential hazards. 
  • Perform monthly facility walkdowns and assessments to identify areas of non-compliance. 
  • Provide training and education to employees on safety and health practices. 
  • Collaborate with various work groups to integrate safety and health initiatives into daily operations. 
  • Serve as a corporate resource, offering expertise and guidance on safety and health matters. 
  • Drive a positive safety culture by promoting best practices, encouraging proactive safety behaviors, and challenging the status quo. 
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. 
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in safety and health.
