FLSA Status: Exempt
School Classification: Classified
Pay Schedule: Range 14 ($109,075 - $141,143)
Work Schedule: 225 days/12 months
Location: Onsite and Remote Office
Position Summary: The senior administrator of policy and legislative affairs supports Sage Oak’s legislative advocacy, policy systems, and strategic communications. This position leads cross-departmental projects that strengthen governance, compliance, and visibility, including recognition efforts and public messaging. The senior administrator travels to support the superintendent and executive team in maintaining Sage Oak’s presence in key legislative and public arenas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Overarching Duties and Abilities for All Sage Oak Senior Administrators:
Legislative Monitoring and Advocacy (State and Federal)

Monitors, summarizes, and tracks education-related legislation at both the state and federal levels, particularly affecting charter schools, independent study, data privacy, and funding.

Drafts legislative updates, comment letters, and talking points for internal and external use.

Coordinates with charter advocacy groups (e.g., APLUS+, CCSA, CSDC) to stay aligned with sector-wide trends and actions.

Travels to Sacramento and Washington, D.C and other locations. as requested to attend hearings, briefings, and advocacy events.

Supports the Superintendent and executive team by preparing materials, coordinating logistics, and attending advocacy functions on their behalf as needed.

Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations & Accountability on legislative tracking and priorities, and with the Superintendent to prepare materials, coordinate messaging, and support board-facing communications.
Policy Development and Governance Support

Manages the school’s operational and board policy review systems, including timelines, legal triggers, and feedback loops.

Drafts and edits policies to align with legal requirements and the school’s mission and values.

Facilitates policy workgroups, synthesizes feedback, and supports the preparation of board-ready policy packets.

Maintains the public-facing policy repository in compliance with open records and transparency laws.

Travels as needed to board meetings or conferences to understand and present policy content.

Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations & Accountability on policy development and legal alignment, and with Business Services on any fiscal or procedural implications of policy shifts.
Strategic Communications and Public Messaging

Drafts internal and external messaging related to policy, legislation, compliance, and audits.

Collaborates with the Senior Administrator of Public Information & Media to ensure clarity, legal accuracy, and alignment of communications.

Create FAQs, plain-language summaries, and staff/family communications for complex legislative or procedural changes.

Travels to provide in-person communication support at strategic events or trainings.

Partners with the Senior Administrator of Public Information & Media to ensure messaging on the website, newsletters, and social media is timely, accessible, and aligned with the school’s tone and public image.
