The Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for multiple fixed term part time Staff Specialist - Emergency Medicine vacancies.
- Provide specialist emergency care to public and private patients attending the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
- Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at RHH.
- Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Emergency Department (ED) provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Our busy ED provides care for >75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.
The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU) which is a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours). The EMU has 28 short-stay beds operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a high turnover ward environment and a variety of clinical presentations.

The Role
Patient Care:
- Medical care of ED patients.
- Undertake procedures as required in ED.
- Participate in after hours on call roster.
Teaching:
- Undertake undergraduate clinical teaching at RHH.
- Provide supervision and training of post graduate trainees.
Research:
- Maintain involvement in research activities
Administrative and Quality Improvement:
- Provide administrative and quality improvement functions for units as required
- Work closely with corresponding nursing staff and support staff in the ED.
- Participation in disaster preparedness planning.
Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
