The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 111 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHMLA at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall—is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Director, Corporate Relations for our Advancement department. The Director, Corporate Relations works closely with the Senior Director, Institutional Giving to establish the overall strategy to raise funds from the corporate community via corporate philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, and marketing budgets in support of the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Directs the overall strategy for Corporate Relations, including Corporate Sponsorship and Corporate Partners, Restricted Corporate Giving, and Capital Campaigns.
Secures corporate sponsorships, corporate grants and in-kind support for exhibitions, education and public programs, events and capital campaigns
Creates customized, state-of-the-art proposals, which promote mutually beneficial partnerships that address the financial needs of the Museum and the strategic goals of corporate sponsors and partners
Works in a highly integrated way with NHMLAC staff in other divisions to develop program design, sponsorship benefits and recognition, proposal content, and budget information.
Ensures proper sign off prior to submission for all proposals, reports and related financial representations.
Actively manages corporate relationships including fulfillment and tracking of sponsorship deliverables such as activation events, on-site recognition, facility rentals, credit acknowledgments, website pla, employee benefits and more.
This position has the following requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
A minimum of five years of experience in progressively more responsible roles for a comparable program or function.
Familiarity with strategic planning and the ability to assist in translating organizational vision to potential supporters. Monitor implementation of goals at this level, making necessary adjustments and informing higher levels of management regarding significant changes.
Ability to solicit financial commitments, draft contract terms, and close sponsorship agreements.
Assess complex situations and make decisions and/or recommendations across departments and functions.
Develop strategy, implement tactical communications plans, create content, and use data to inform communications strategy activities.
Experience with contributing to the development of program budgets and monitoring their implementation.
An entrepreneurial approach to prospect identification and cultivation and excellent communications and negotiation skills are essential. Outstanding writing skills are required.
Extensive proposal writing experience and fluency with social media, marketing, graphic design concepts and related software programs.
Proven track record of quantifiable fundraising success.<
