Job Description

 

Work Location: Remote in Seattle, WA

 

The Field Service Engineer II has intermediate microscopy product knowledge and demonstrated capability to troubleshoot in laboratory work; or someone who has equivalent work experience with mechanical electrical or optical equipment repair. Under minimal daily supervision and successful completion of relevant training courses the incumbent will inspect service repair and provide expert level technical service and support on Olympus branded equipment. The individual will conduct routine service and sales support calls and build strong customer relationships to strengthen the Olympus brand. The incumbent may obtain the assistance of a more experienced engineer to solve extremely difficult or complex problems in which he/she is not yet familiar and may on occasion offer assistance to employees with less experience. The incumbent will possess and practice good teamwork problem solving and customer service skills.

Job Duties

Provide onsite system installation maintenance and repair within an assigned geographical area or as required. With no onsite supervision conduct repairs upgrades preventative maintenance and system installations. Support in-house operations as required. Ensure timely professional and effective response to customer service needs to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Submit required field based documentation in a timely and accurate manner such as Customer Database Reports Expense Reports Calendar Entries Installation Checklists Countermeasure forms and Quality issue reporting in accordance with Managements directives and Olympus corporate guidelines. Establish and maintain open communication with the supervisor other FSEs and the product support organization within Olympus to resolve all undefined or ongoing customer support problems. Responsible for online booking of all travel arrangements within corporate financial guidelines. Assist other Field Service Engineers and Sales Representatives with product installations trade shows demonstrations and other events as required. Proactively work within the region to support key accounts and other customers as required. Responsible for all service parts requested by or assigned to the FSE. Manage inventory in accordance with established requirements. Perform all other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

1) Associate degree in Engineering Technology Electronics Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent education or experience is required; Minimum of 4 years related work experience directly associated with microscopy or electro-opto-mechanical computer based products. OR 2) BS degree in physics or laser spectroscopy with 2 years work experience may be considered. OR 3) Advanced degree (Master or Ph.D. or postdoc) in Physics Spectroscopy Microscopy Engineering or equivalent education required; 2+ years' experience of using laser based advanced imaging system are required with a preference to do-it-yourself for building optical imaging systems in laboratory setting. Strong communication skills both written and verbal are preferred. Must have demonstrated decision making ability toward solving problems while working under pressure and effectively communicate these solutions to coworkers and customers. Must have demonstrated ability to timely manage multiple requests for resources from both internal and external customers. Ability to use electronic test equipment is necessary. Must be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision and have high- degree of personal organization. Must be able to work flexible hours to include occasional short notice overtime and weekend work. Must be able to travel via air and automobile including overnight travel and occasional short notice travel within 24 hour notice. Must possess valid driver's license.
