Shift:

Full Time (36hrs) - Weekends 1p-1a

The Sentara Independence Emergency Department in Virginia Beach offers full-service, 24-hour emergency care for all types of medical emergencies. Key features include:

• 24/7 access to board-certified emergency physicians and experienced nurses.
• Private patient care rooms equipped with state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring.
• A minor care treatment area for conditions that need quick evaluation and release.
• On-site imaging services — including X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI — to support rapid diagnosis.
• Designation as Acute Stroke Ready, meaning it can quickly stabilize and treat stroke patients before transfer if needed.
• Coordination with the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance for critically ill patients requiring transfer to higher-level hospitals.
• A family-friendly waiting area designed for comfort and privacy.

These services ensure comprehensive emergency care for the Virginia Beach community, with immediate stabilization and transfer options available when advanced care is required.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Education:

• ADN required, BSN or higher preferred.

Certification:

• Virginia or compact multistate RN (Registered Nurse) license in good standing.

• Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire.

• All Direct Care RNs required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• RN experience in a hospital setting preferred.

• ED experience preferred.
