The Role

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the management of the Form 990, unrelated business income tax positions, foreign filings for broadcast and other tax related filings, direct oversight of the payroll department, support of the administrative needs and audits for the benefit plans. The position will strive for continuous improvements.

Tax Preparation:

  • Preparation and filing of corporate tax returns (e.g. 990’s, 990T, etc…) and related backup work papers in conjunction with outside tax firm. This includes form 990t (unrelated business income tax) This includes analyzing unrelated business income tax, and various other corporate tax returns.
  • Annual state filings for NY, California, and Florida for local Not For Profit returns. Consideration for USTA Foundation state filings, currently outsourced to legal counsel.
  • State filings for Commercial Rent Tax in the state of NY.
  • State of Florida for tangible personal property tax.
  • State of Washington income filings and other states based on local UBIT items.
  • Annual Filings of application for US residency certification (form 8802).
  • International tax filings, leveraging the tax treaty.
  • Responsible for responding to tax inquiries from government offices.
  • Responsible for managing any external audits.

Benefit Plans:

  • Oversight of benefit plan audits, preparation of the benefit plan financial statements, and preparation and filing of Form 5500; other ad hoc schedules as needed.
  • Non-discrimination testing and other compliance testing and monitoring to ensure full internal compliance.
  • Oversite and compliance with plan eligibility, contributions, match, loans and other plan compliance items.

Value added support managing resources and other:

  • Assist during the US Open and other USTA events as deemed necessary, handling prize money and amateur expense reimbursements including: 1042S issuance and check cashing.
  • Ability to become proficient in our accounting policies and procedures and apply them to our daily operations, recommend enhancements, train others and implement with strong level of controls.
  • Assist with the monthly closes including 401K allocations; payroll uploads and assigned balance sheets inclusive of 941 reconciliations for payroll.
  • Other accounting related duties as assigned.
  • Provide technical support, as needed.

Other

  • Backup Administrator for Amex Corp. Card program (issuing/ terminating cards)
  • Ad hoc projects as necessary, as support to Managing Director and Corporate Controller.
  • Oversee the Payroll Department which includes review of biweekly payrolls.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and familiarity with windows-based accounting software.
  • Highly meticulous with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to lead multiple tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and social skills to cultivate team collaboration and engage with external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, government agencies).
  • High level of integrity and accountability.
  • Proven ability to oversee and empower payroll and administrative teams, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
  • Capable of handling audits, responding to government inquiries, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment, especially during high-demand events like the US Open.
  • Willingness to provide support during organizational events and collaborate on cross-departmental projects.
