OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for an Academic and Career Success Counselor position within the Dougherty Family College.

 

To best support our students and campus community, this role is designed as an on-campus position and will office out of our Minneapolis location.

Salary Range: $53,000-$63,000 annually, plus an additional adjunct contract of about $6,000 annually. 

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Academic and Career Success Counselor works with scholars throughout their two years at DFC providing academic and career development support and student success initiatives as part of the Student Life team. The Academic and Career Success Counselor provides support and information for students regarding employment, developing resumes, cover letters and interviewing. The Academic and Career Success Counselor also develops and delivers content designed to improve academic skills and increase curricular and co-curricular engagement, including teaching the First-Year Experience (FYEX) course for DFC. The Counselor collaborates with faculty to establish individual and group academic plans for student academic success. The Counselor provides one-on-one support and development of educational goals for students who are struggling or need additional support. The Academic and Career Success Counselor coordinates and manages the Summer Enrichment Program, a required program for incoming DFC scholars intended to support the transition to DFC, with the Assoc. Dean of Students. The Academic and Career Success Counselor’s work reflects a demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

This is a 12-month position.

 

1. Career Success: Provide career counseling to assist students with clarification of educational goals and career selection, including guidance on career pathways.

  • Support the Professional Internship Program Director with the Professional Development Course, to provide career preparation and enhance professional skills
  • Offer career exploration services through skills and values assessments, career mapping and individual plans
  • Support students individually to create and improve resumes and professional portfolio items
  • Assist scholars search, application, and hiring processes for jobs and internships
  • Promote UST student worker positions and assist students with navigating the application process
  • Provide support to scholars participating in the DFC professional internship program
  • Annually survey students and implement improvements to the career success offerings
  • Assist alumni with preparing materials to be presented to various networks
  • Provide one-on-one support as needed for all students
