The Associate General Counsel position will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel and will be responsible for managing all litigation matters and third-party disputes for the company, work on regulatory and state licensing matters, and provide legal support on matters arising in day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships, trust and share knowledge openly by anticipating and guarding against legal risks, developing and recommending policy and position for the company. This position will interact directly and frequently with internal business leaders and stakeholders and 3rd party integrated partners.
We are seeking an individual who will provide a strategic blend of both legal and business competencies in validation of terms against commercial and industry norms, compliance management with regulatory requirements, risk management, and protection of our associates, members, and the organization’s reputation. This position will demonstrate capabilities in anticipating legal issues, accepting and effectively resolving sensitive topics and handling difficult situations diplomatically.
The candidate will also be willing to take on department projects and initiatives designed to improve legal
service delivery within the enterprise.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with various departments involved in the marketing, sale, licensing and distribution of Beyond products and services; and addressing substantive legal issues related to the marketing, sale, licensing and distribution of products
- Collaborate extensively with Executive Management, Compliance team and affiliate groups on regulatory and legislative issues
- Review business policies and procedures, and suggests improvements and appropriate language as necessary
- Evaluate and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs, strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the business of the Company
- Exercise judgment on complex, confidential, and sensitive legal issues; performs appropriate analysis and recommendations; determines root causes of issues; escalates and resolves legal issues as needed.
- Determine company’s position on potential business transactions. Review all risks and determines appropriate action
- Closely manage and direct outside counsel as needed
- Review and update policies and practices to conform to current federal, state and local laws and regulations; monitor controls on business policies and procedures as well as performance to ensure compliance
- Conduct legal research, as necessary
Qualifications/Experience:
- A Juris Doctor degree
- Member, in good standing, of at least one U.S. state bar
- 3-5 years’ experience within a major law firm or corporate legal department, with primary emphasis on corporate, transactional, marketing, general business and commercial law
- Ability and experience working closely and collaboratively with counterparts in developing business strategies and in performing technical legal analysis focused on maximizing and creating business opportunities and minimizing material risks
- Extensive experience with the marketing, sale and distribution of consumer products and services is preferred
- Seasoned communication skills – ability to influence at a variety of levels and across functions in a complex matrix organization are required
- Ability to lead, inspire, manage and positively influence others is required
- Ability to recognize and elevate complex and/or controversial issues to senior management in a timely and effective manner
- Must be a strategic thinker with a strong tolerance for ambiguity, risk, and organizational transformations
- Must have business deal-making and negotiation acumen
- Must be able to quickly process, negotiate and draft complex legal agreements and documents
- Must be a team player, have a positive attitude and a sense of humor
