Peer Support Specialist

Certificate of successful completion of Nebraska approved Peer Support Core Curriculum Training required.

Contribute lived experience, perspective, knowledge, and skills to the rehabilitative and recovery process. Responsible for facilitating effective system navigation, empowerment, hope, resiliency, voice and choice. Provide service that is person/family centered, promotes self-directed recovery and supports self-advocacy and empowerment through interventions that emphasize safety, self-worth, growth, connection to community, planning and social supports.

Duties: Peer Support Specialist

Contribute lived experience, perspective, knowledge, and skills to the rehabilitative and recovery process. Responsible for facilitating effective system navigation, empowerment, hope, resiliency, voice and choice. Provide service that is person/family centered, promotes self-directed recovery and supports self-advocacy and empowerment through interventions that emphasize safety, self-worth, growth, connection to community, planning and social supports.

Required Qualifications: Peer Support Specialist

  • High school education or equivalent required. 
  • Certificate of successful completion of Nebraska approved Peer Support Core Curriculum Training required.
  • Self-Identifies as having lived experience as an individual with a mental health/substance use disorder or as a parent/care-giver to a child with a mental health/substance use disorder required. 

Preferred Qualifications: Peer Support Specialist

  • Demonstrated successful full or part time, paid or voluntary work experience within the past 12 months preferred..
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Certified Peer Support Wellness Specialist (CPSWS) or Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in accordance with the certification described by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health preferred.
