About the role

A leading real estate organization is seeking a Senior Asset Manager to oversee the financial performance and long-term sustainability of a diverse affordable housing portfolio across California. This role will be responsible for driving portfolio performance through financial oversight, capital planning, regulatory compliance, and operational collaboration with third-party property management partners.

This position plays a strategic role in ensuring assets are operating efficiently while supporting broader portfolio initiatives, including refinancing, re-syndications, and development stabilization. The Senior Asset Manager will also mentor junior team members and contribute to ongoing process improvements across the asset management function.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the financial performance of assigned properties, including financial reviews, forecasting, variance analysis, audits, and capital account oversight.
  • Oversee capital improvement planning and execution, including reserve withdrawals and contingency planning for major repairs or disasters.
  • Support development teams during lease-up and stabilization, including conversion to permanent financing for new developments.
  • Coordinate with third-party property management companies and evaluate management agreements and operational performance.
  • Prepare and submit required reporting to investors, lenders, regulatory agencies, and internal leadership.
  • Conduct periodic site inspections and monitor the physical condition of properties to ensure long-term asset performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agreements, tax credit requirements, and lender/investor reporting obligations in collaboration with compliance teams.
  • Participate in strategic planning related to refinancing, re-syndication, acquisitions, and dispositions.
  • Mentor and supervise junior asset management staff while contributing to departmental and cross-departmental process improvements.
  • Support broader asset management initiatives and portfolio strategy as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in asset management, affordable housing, or related real estate fields.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and asset management or property management systems.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MRI, Smartsheet, or other real estate asset management software.
  • Professional certifications such as TCS, HCCP, CHAM, or CPM.
  • Prior experience overseeing affordable housing portfolios within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Knowledge of LIHTC compliance, HUD programs, and municipally financed multifamily housing.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including experience reviewing property financials and performance metrics.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and strategic thinking abilities.
