Summary

Examples of duties
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and provides professional public health nursing services to individuals, families, and groups in the home, community, and health centers.
- Provides nursing care, health assessments, health guidance, health education, and referral services to individuals, families, groups, and institutions.
- Administers prescribed medical treatments and emergency care to patients.
- Assists physicians and others in health clinics.
- Provides Family Planning Services and child immunizations based on current federal, state and local regulations
- Performs various health screenings.
- Provides health screening education and counseling in the areas of disease prevention, health maintenance, and mental health.
- Participates in the instruction, orientation, and oversight of new public health nurses, nursing assistants, volunteers, and others.
- Prepares and maintains nursing records and reports.
- Administers seasonal and routine vaccines to people of all ages (Infants - Older Adults); adheres to CDC guidelines
- Maintains accurate immunization records in compliance with state regulations and HIPPA
- Educates patients on vaccine benefits, side effects, and aftercare

Qualifications
Required QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing.
OR
Graduation from an accredited diploma school of nursing, plus at least one year of professional nursing experience. (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate in arts degree in nursing, plus at least two years' professional nursing experience. (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of experience in direct outpatient sexual health.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid license to practice as a professional registered nurse, issued by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses, is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
