The Sales & Finance Engineering teams are embarking on a journey to modernize their software applications. These teams are evaluating existing on-prem applications and redesigning them for both the cloud and to meet a new vision for how software systems are built and managed across NBCU that emphasizes platforms and APIs over standalone applications.

Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Sales & Finance Engineering teams who will provide both technical expertise and leadership. A Principal Software Engineer is an individual contributor technical leadership role. As such, skills both on and off the keyboard are required.

The work of the role includes articulating a vision to development teams and stakeholders, developing a strategy for its delivery, designing and architecting systems in consultation with respective development teams, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, performant, and reliable systems. They will be responsible for developing relationships brokering alignment between teams and across the NBCU organization. And they will also work with engineering leadership to ensure teams are properly equipped with the skills and tools required to perform their job effectively. The ideal candidate will have a respect for the past while also respectfully challenging what we do today in order to improve how we do it tomorrow.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Well versed in methods for ensuring the delivery of architecturally sound and secure software
• Significant knowledge and experience working with cloud services and architectural patterns including serverless and event-driven design patterns
• Demonstrated ability to ideate, plan, and lead new engineering efforts
• Demonstrated ability to develop a vision and inspire other engineers to achieve successful delivery
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategy among members of different functional backgrounds. E.g. People leadership, Product, and Business
• Track record of introducing new processes and/or tools to improve software delivery or team function
• Demonstrated customer focus and engagement regarding software delivery
• Demonstrated success working in a large, multifaceted, and matrixed organization 
• Provided mentorship to grow the technical skills and careers of others with consideration of their career stage and personal trajectory
• Ability to communicate effectively depending on the audience technical teams, business teams, and leadership teams

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience building and operating cloud applications, infrastructure, and services in a cloud provider, such as AWS or Azure
• Experience with both backend and frontend software development
• Experience with serverless compute technologies, such as AWS Lambda or Azure Functions
• Experience with distributed messaging services, such as Kafka or AWS Kinesis 

• Experience with caching services, such as Redis or AWS Elasticache
• Experience with either or both SQL and NoSQL datastores
• Understanding software development in a DevOps culture
