We are seeking a highly skilled Red Hat Linux Systems Administrator to oversee the configuration, maintenance, and security of Linux-based enterprise systems in a high-security, mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Linux administration, a solid understanding of DoD IT policies and cybersecurity practices, and the ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff. This position is fully on-site in Pensacola, FL.
Job Description
- Administer, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across multiple environments (classified and unclassified)
- Apply and ensure compliance with DoD STIGs, IAVM directives, and cybersecurity best practices
- Manage and deploy system patches, updates, and antivirus solutions in accordance with DoD guidelines
- Provide Tier III support for escalated Linux system issues, collaborating with network, security, and application teams as needed
- Support the detection and response to system-level security incidents in coordination with cybersecurity teams
- Participate in cross-functional incident response activities, providing subject matter expertise on affected Linux systems
- Maintain and improve incident response documentation and procedures as they relate to Linux infrastructure
- Monitor system health and performance using tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or other enterprise monitoring platforms
- Support integration and troubleshooting of cybersecurity tools such as HBSS, ACAS, Nessus, and Splunk
- Manage user accounts, groups, access controls, and permissions based on DoD Identity and Access Management standards
- Support RMF implementation, generate compliance artifacts, and assist in maintaining ATO/IATT status
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including architecture diagrams, build guides, and SOPs
- Participate in the development and testing of disaster recovery, COOP, and backup strategies for Linux systems
- Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on Linux-related projects and operational tasks
- Communicate system or incident status clearly to internal stakeholders when required
Minimum Requirements
- Active Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain Top Secret
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) or above—IAT Level III preferred
- 8+ years of experience in Linux systems administration in a DoD or enterprise environment
- Strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration
- Familiarity with automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, Ansible, Python)
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM
- In-depth knowledge of STIG compliance, RMF, and eMASS processes
- Proven ability to implement and troubleshoot security tools such as HBSS, ACAS, and SIEM solutions
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills
Desired Experience/Certifications
- Prior experience supporting or participating in cybersecurity incident response activities should this go in Min Quals? Rate is still at issue at 111K
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-61, FISMA, or ITIL incident management frameworks
- Experience working in DoD or federal cybersecurity environments
- Exposure to cross-functional team coordination during security incidents or system outages
