Medical Nutritionist

POSITION SUMMARY

Medical Nutritionist works as a member of the Medical Weight Management team in providing patient care. This position promotes dietary health, provides encouragement, and provides resources to patients. This position also creates plans and educates per provider’s plan of care, including diet, exercise, and behavior modifications. This position will record patients’ progress and communicate progress to the provider.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

At least one of the following:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
2. Bachelor’s degree in food, nutrition, food service management or a related field
3. Registered Dietitian (RD) by Commission on Dietetic Registration
4. Accredited Dietetic Internship (DI) by the American dietetic Association (ADA)

Experience:

1. At least one year providing direct patient care

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Medical Center.
2. Create plans and educate per providers’ plan of care, including diet, exercise and behavior modifications
3. Promotes dietary health
4. Health promotion and maintenance
5. Creating a safe, effective environment
6. Legal compliance
7. Provides encouragement and resources coupled with education
8. Teamwork and team management
9. Listening, analyzing information with a focus on quality

License/Certification/Registration:

1. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

Receives general supervision from providers/Practice Manager.
