Your Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Engineer for John Deere Waterloo Works Foundry Facility, located in Waterloo, IA, you will provide mechanical engineering design and support of Foundry modifications and improvements. This position will interface and coordinate with partner organizations, facilities construction, maintenance personnel, and other engineering and design team members to develop engineering schematics, cost materials and labor, project timeline(s) and maintain integrity of engineering specifications during actual construction. In addition, you will:

 

  • Implement equipment and process modifications and repairs to improve reliability, efficiency, quality, productivity, and safety.
  • Maintain documentation to enable best practices with other maintenance projects and satisfy compliance requirements.
  • Oversee project coordination for the installation of process equipment and general expense projects in an industrial environment. This includes:
    • Estimating project costs
    • Writing capital requests
    • Interfacing with vendors and process owners
    • Analyze manufacturer recommendations to create new preventative maintenance plans to optimize equipment uptime
    • Designing and detailing bid and construction drawings and documentation
    • Supervising construction contractors and installation
  • Provide life, safety and building code analysis and support and implement programs within the organization to prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Assist in the identification and resolution of potential environmental, safety, ergonomic and health hazards.

What Skills You Need

 

  • 3 or more years of maintenance responsibilities in a heavy industrial maintenance or engineering environment.
  • 3 or more years of experience with Industrial Power systems including: Hydraulic, compressed air, natural gas, and electrical systems.
  • Project management experience demonstrating effective communication, teamwork skills, problem solving, and multiple concurrent project workload management.
  • Ability and willingness to support a multi-shift operational facility.

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Fundamental understanding of processes and equipment related to the melt casting industry including melting, molding, cleaning and core making.
  • Experience managing outside contractors.
  • Experience with the capital justification process.
  • Proficiency in using computer aided design and/or engineering tools (AutoCAD Architectural and Creo Parametric).
  • Experience leading others and/or teams.

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing) or equivalent experience.
