Job Overview:
The General Manager of Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) is responsible for leading all food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs across rendering operations. This position ensures adherence to company policies, industry standards, and government regulations while maintaining high-quality and safe products. The General Manager will develop and oversee FSQA strategies, manage compliance programs, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in food safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
1. Food Safety & Quality Leadership
- Develop, implement, and oversee food safety and quality assurance programs specific to rendering operations.
- Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, AAFCO, state, and local regulations, as well as industry standards such as HACCP, GMPs, and GFSI benchmarked audit requirements.
- Lead initiatives to improve food safety and quality management systems to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Audits
- Serve as the primary liaison for regulatory agencies and oversee compliance with all food safety laws.
- Prepare for and lead regulatory, third-party, and customer audits, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
3. FSQA Team Leadership & Training
- Manage and mentor FSQA teams, providing training and leadership to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Develop and implement training programs for employees on food safety, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in food safety and quality.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and procurement teams to integrate food safety and quality controls into daily production processes.
- Identify and resolve FSQA-related issues that may impact rendering operations, product quality, or regulatory compliance.
- Support plant management in troubleshooting quality concerns and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
5. Product Quality Assurance & Testing
- Oversee laboratory and testing programs to ensure rendered products meet quality specifications.
- Monitor and analyze quality trends to drive improvements in product consistency and safety.
- Implement root cause analysis and corrective action plans for deviations in quality standards.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain FSQA documentation, including Food Defense, HACCP plans, SOPs, and regulatory records.
- Generate reports on food safety trends, audit results, and compliance metrics.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in food safety and quality assurance leadership, preferably in rendering, meat processing, or animal feed industries
