The undergraduate research internship in the Young Laboratory in the summer of 2024 will involve training in several key methods in modern molecular biology, genetic engineering, and yeast cell culture. The goal of the project you will be working on is to genetically engineer a baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, to produce chemicals and proteins.JOB DESCRIPTION
This entails training in skills useful to your future career such as:
- Bacterial cell growth
- Molecular cloning of DNA for integration into the yeast genome
- Yeast cell growth
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Cutting edge engineering of materials biosynthesis with synthetic biology
- General laboratory skills such as sterile technique, pipetting, and biosafety
These skills will help the Young Laboratory achieve progress and train you in useful skills that you can translate into future experiences.
