HourlyPosition Purpose: The Silicon Valley Power Sustainable Futures (SVPSF) Postbac Fellowship, hosted at Santa Clara University’s Center for Sustainability, is a two-year, full-time opportunity designed to strengthen a green workforce pipeline of diverse talent and leadership in the sustainability and clean energy sectors. This role will support student professional development and industry exposure, applied research and project implementation, and strategic partnership development.
Duties Include:
Professional Development and Industry Exposure:
Coordinate events, workshops, and engagement opportunities to help students explore career pathways in sustainability and clean energy.
Participate in outreach and engagement activities to connect students with professionals in the green economy.
Interact with industry leaders and professionals to help students gain exposure to real-world applications and career opportunities.
Applied Research and Project Implementation:
Support facilitation of Silicon Valley Power Sustainable Futures (SVPSF) Fellows’ applied research projects addressing local sustainability and climate action goals, helping them translate academic learning into practical, impactful solutions through project-based work.
Contribute to the development, management, and operations of datasets, tools, GIS mapping frameworks, and other shared assets supporting the SVPSF program.
Support the implementation of completed project deliverables and policy recommendations into practice.
Strategic Partnership Development:
Meet with SCU faculty and staff, the local community, and City agencies, to create opportunities to develop innovative solutions advanced by fellows while establishing clear pathways for emerging professionals in the green economy.
Communications, Reporting & Strategy
Coordinate with City officials on recognition efforts, reporting, and public storytelling related to the Fellowship’s impact.
Help identify future projects aligned with SCU program objectives and the goals of the City of Santa Clara Climate Plan.
Qualifications:
Required
Qualified applicants shall have earned their baccalaureate degree from Santa Clara University or another accredited four-year college or university within four years of the position’s start date and demonstrate the following:
A record of academic and project-based leadership experience in a relevant sustainability-oriented field.
Charisma, leadership, and the capacity to effectively mentor undergraduate students in project-based assignments.
Strong analytical and communication skills, including the development and implementation of policy research, quantitative analysis models, GIS mapping, and qualitative analysis, as well as the production of high-quality narrative reports and policy recommendations.
Strong capacity to organize and manage multiple partner relationships and projects with competing deadlines and priorities.
Fluency with modern project management software and disciplinary technologies that are judged critical to program execution.
Preferred
Demonstrate a clear intention to pursue graduate studies or a career path in sustainability or clean power jobs.
Have prior experience with theoretical and project-based approaches that involve equity in sustainability fields.
First-generation college graduates, Pell Grant recipients, and/or individuals from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
