Position Summary / Department Summary:

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program (DHHP) at Boston Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation and consultative services to D/deaf and hard of hearing individuals. DHHP is an interdisciplinary team that assesses a child’s language and developmental status and subsequently assists families to create a roadmap that emphasizes communication, language proficiency, and social-emotional well-being.

The Speech Language Pathologist joining our team is expected to exemplify these values. Our diverse patient population and their families communicate in signed and/or spoken languages, and may utilize assistive technologies like hearing aids, cochlear implants, or BAHAs. All members of the DHHP should value the importance of communication in our lives and commit to providing equitable support to all individuals, while being considerate of one’s hearing level and primary language.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive evaluation and management of pediatric communication skills with an in-depth understanding of a D/deaf and hard of hearing child’s speech, language, and communication profile and needs.
• Provide case coordination, parent/caregiver counseling, and follow-up services to the local community.
• Complete timely and thorough documentation for patient caseload, including evaluation reports, treatment plans, daily notes, and discharge summaries.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, audiologists, psychologists, and other health care professionals.
• Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge through continuing education.
• Participate in program meetings, committees, and projects.

 
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• Master’s degree in Speech Pathology or closely related field.

Experience:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of directly related clinical experience preferred.

Licensure / Certifications:

• Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA).
• Current Massachusetts state licensure to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
• Fluency in American Sign Language strongly encouraged.
