About the role
Description
Job Type: Full Time | Location: Texas | Department: Innovation | Reporting to: Manager, VDC | Work Location Type: #remoteIREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
Reporting to the Manager, VDC, the Mechanical BIM Specialist translates IREN's corporate VDC standards into practical, discipline-level execution — interfacing directly with trade contractors, internal design teams, and external design firms on the details of VDC execution for the discipline, and ensuring lessons learned are captured and fed back into company-wide standards.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
Responsibilities
Discipline Requirements & Workflows- Establish and maintain the discipline-specific BIM requirements for mechanical systems — including HVAC, liquid cooling distribution, piping, plumbing, and fire protection: modeling standards, level-of-development (LOD) expectations by project phase, content and family libraries, parameter and classification schemes, and model quality checklists.
- Define the discipline coordination workflow — how models are authored, exchanged, federated, clash-tested, and signed off — anddocumentit in playbooks and templates that project teams and external partners can execute consistently.
- Review and continuously improve these requirements based on project feedback, working with the otherdisciplineBIM Specialists to keep cross-discipline interfaces, shared parameters, and coordination priorities aligned.
- Perform and lead discipline model reviews across projects — validating model quality, completeness, and constructability for air handling and distribution, chilled water and coolant distribution piping, pumps, heat rejection equipment, fire suppression, and associated supports and equipment pads.
- Drive discipline-level clash detection and resolution, with particular focus on routing congested mechanical piping and ductwork through dense white space, coordinating clearances for equipment maintenance and replacement, and resolving interfaces with electrical distribution and structural framing.
- Support fabrication-level modeling for prefabrication and modular construction —establishing requirements for spool drawings, duct fabrication models, and skid or module assemblies so off-site manufacturing partners can build directly from coordinated model data.
- Participate in project coordination meetings as the discipline authority, resolving technical modeling questions and setting the quality bar for what well-executed discipline VDC looks like at IREN.
- Serve as the primary discipline point of contact for trade contractors, internal design teams, and external design firms on VDC execution details — onboarding partners to IREN's discipline requirements, reviewing their BIM execution capabilities, and holding their deliverables to standard.
- Audit incoming discipline models from partners for compliance with IREN requirements, providing structured feedback and working through corrections before models enter federated coordination.
- Capture lessons learned from each project phase — recurring clash patterns, modeling gaps, workflow friction — and convert them into updates to discipline standards, content libraries, and playbooks maintained across the business.
- Contribute discipline expertise to corporate VDC initiatives led by the Manager, VDC, including technology evaluations, CDE workflows, and integration of model data with downstream systems.
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in BIM/VDC coordination or design of mechanical building systems (HVAC, hydronic piping, plumbing, fire protection) in data center, mission-critical, or heavy industrial environments.
- Expert proficiency with Revit MEP and Navisworks; experiencewith fabrication-level tools such as Autodesk Fabrication (CADmep), Victaulic Tools for Revit, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing or enforcing discipline
