The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s approximately 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects.
Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio as well as renovation work to existing schools. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

Job Description Summary
Electrical Engineer - Level A, B or C reports to a Managing Engineer, or higher assignment level Engineer and is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.Job Description
Requirements
- Strong familiarity with NFPA-70 National Electrical Code.
- Familiarity with New York City Building and Electrical Codes and relevant industry standards of practice in professional electrical engineering design.
- Experience in the design of electrical power systems, including service room layouts, distribution systems, and load calculations.
- Proficiency in the design of low-voltage systems such as public address, data/telecommunications, and security camera systems.
- Expertise in fire alarm system design, with in-depth knowledge of FDNY requirements.
- Knowledge of NYC Energy Conservation Code (2020) and experience with lighting and control system design.
- Understanding of contract documents for engineering projects and the ability to administer them during the construction phase.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
Engineer - A
- Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed.
- Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects.
- Perform and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.
- May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer B or Engineer C, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers.
- Technical Inspectors working on several less complex design and construction projects, such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased space, and CIP projects.
- Perform design review of work prepared by other engineers.
- Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project.
- Conduct site observations.
- Prepare field reports.
- Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals.
- Review reports.
- Perform design review of work for engineering portions of multiple projects.
- Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects.
- Maintain and develops general understanding of engineering principles.
- May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
- Perform related duties, as assigned.
Engineer - B
- Engineer B may direct lower level Engineers, Technical Inspectors, Quality Assurance Specialists, Associate Engineers, and Engineering Technicians.
- Work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects.
