Position Summary:

This role will act as an Open-Rank Professor, a faculty member who has completed a doctoral or equivalent terminal degree in one of the core areas of the General Education program with a preference in the Physical and Life Sciences from an accredited college or university. As an Open Rank Professor, they facilitate learning and partake in scholarship, service, or any combination of those activities. As Program Director, this individual is critical for the successful operation of the University. Under the supervision/direction of the school dean, the program director is central to academic planning, faculty recruitment, retention, and development, and budget management and oversight, as well as to the quality of the student’s academic experience. The Program Director is an integral part of the school’s leadership team and works closely with the dean in fostering a learning community infused with vitality for all constituencies.

 

Starting Salary: $50,000.

Part-time, 12-month contract.

 

The Program Director, General Education, is an inaugural position that offers the opportunity to shape program philosophy, curriculum, and faculty composition.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Doctoral or equivalent terminal degree, with a preference in terminal degree in the Physical or Life Sciences, from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching and administrative responsibilities at the undergraduate level.  Administrative experience includes, but is not limited to, program planning, implementation, and evaluation; personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting; and Service and Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning).  Experience designing online experiential learning experiences for the sciences is highly preferred. Must also have experience supporting and mentoring professionals, and evidence of responsibility in managing complex and diverse tasks. The rank assigned will be consistent teaching, service, and scholarship demonstrated.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work as an effective team member and develop trusting relationships with students and University employees.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal interactions and to maintain confidentiality.
