About Sparkfund
Sparkfund is the deployment services company utilities rely on to take DERs from grid edge to grid core.
With over a decade of experience as a utility services company, Sparkfund has pioneered a smarter approach to deploying distributed assets as part of a fast-growing grid. Through its Distributed Capacity Procurement (DCP) model, Sparkfund enables utilities to plan, deploy, and dispatch DERs at the scale and pace necessary to meet load growth demand and unlock the full value of the grid. We support program design, assessment of DER grid value, host engagement, and value chain management to ensure on-time, on-budget deployment of distributed resources with maximum grid value and lowest cost.
With more than 3,500 projects deployed across 43 states and more than 300MW of energized assets constructed, Sparkfund is transforming buildings into a valuable extension of the grid for the benefit of our society.
We’re looking for a Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to lead and elevate our enterprise safety function. This is not a maintenance role. This is an opportunity to define, scale, and embed what “great” looks like across a growing, field-based organization.
If you’re someone who knows how to balance compliance with real-world operations — and can influence leaders while holding a high bar — this role is for you.
The Role
The Director, EHS is responsible for protecting the organization from operational and regulatory risk by establishing and enforcing enterprise-wide safety standards.
You’ll operate as a strategic safety leader and advisor, working across Projects, Operations, HR, and Legal to ensure safety is embedded into how work gets done — not layered on after the fact.
Success in this role means reducing risk, strengthening accountability, and building a safety program that scales with the business.
What You’ll Do
Own and Scale Enterprise Safety Strategy
- Define and evolve Sparkfund’s EHS strategy, standards, and policies across all regions
- Establish “gold standard” frameworks aligned with OSHA and multi-jurisdictional requirements
- Ensure safety programs scale alongside company growth and project complexity
Lead Audit & Compliance Oversight
- Govern safety audits across projects and field operations
- Identify systemic risks, trends, and performance gaps through data and field engagement
- Drive accountability by tracking corrective actions through to resolution
Oversee Incident Management
- Lead response and oversight for incidents, near-misses, and reportable events
- Ensure thorough investigations and root cause analysis — not just surface-level fixes
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence
Drive Cross-Functional Alignment
- Partner with Projects and Operations to embed safety into delivery workflows
- Collaborate with HR, Legal, and Compliance to integrate safety into company processes
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and field teams
Build a Proactive Safety Culture
- Use data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement
- Strengthen training, reporting, and field engagement practices
- Foster a culture where safety is owned at every level — not just enforced
What We’re Looking For
- 10–15+ years of experience in EHS, safety, or risk management
- Proven ability to build and scale enterprise safety programs
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and multi-state regulatory environments
- Experience leading safety in field-based, distributed, or project-driven organizations (construction, energy, infrastructure, etc.)
- Track record of managing audits, investigations, and corrective action processes
- Ability to influence at all levels — from field teams to executive leadership
Preferred:
- Professional certifications (CSP, SMP, CIH, or equivalent)
- Experience in energy, construction, or infrastructure environments
- Background supporting geographically distributed teams
Why This Role
- Enterprise Impact: You’ll shape how safety operates across the entire organization
- Executive Visibility: Partner directly with senior leadership on risk and operational decisions
- Build & Scale: Opportunity to design and mature a safety program — not just maintain one
- Cross-Functio
