The Role
As a Lead Controls Engineer, you will collaborate with the Controls Engineering Manager, Technical Leaders, and cross-functional teams to support meeting the vision of the Controls group with proving insight and ideas on improvements (processes, standards, best practices, and tools) that boost the team’s effectiveness and efficiency. Controls Engineers/Project Leads, handle cradle-to-grave large projects and lead the charge on every aspect of electrical and robotics design and programming and are the keys to making a multi-million-dollar systems a success. This position reports to VP of Controls Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expertise and guidance to the engineering team during the early project stages to develop functional specifications and set design direction.
- Design and develop code for automation equipment (PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Robots, Vision Systems) aligning with functional requirements and Convergix's internal programming standards.
- Leads the team (Electrical, Controls, & Robotics leads) through the development of task lists with estimated hours and sets milestones based on the schedule (trained)
- Responsible for project performance, by acting as the Controls Project Lead, with respect to achieving/defining functional targets, meeting/beating project budgets, ensuring on-time delivery of scope, and delivering an extraordinary customer experience.
- Responsible for driving the best controls solution to meet the functional requirements of the projects by applying best practices and standards while working with the cross-functional team.
- Drive high engineering excellence into projects through the application of critical thinking, judgement, and strong risk management strategies.
- Drive controls specific project meetings (offline programming reviews, design reviews, Stage-Gates, etc), as led by the Controls Project Lead, to articulate risks, challenges, and approaches to gain confidence from internal teams and the customer.
- Support project status updates, forecasting, and issues/risks to the Project Manager or Controls Leadership proactively, while proposing developing plans to ensure successful projects.
- Support coaching and mentoring of project team members success through active oversight of Offline programming, Commissioning, Product testing, deliverables, and cross-functional support.
- Assist the mechanical and electrical design teams in the selection, testing, and integration of hardware such as robots, motion controllers, sensors, and vision systems
- Perform any additional reasonable tasks as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (four-year college or university) or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
